The School of Pharmacy has more than $30.6 million in grants and contracts, with more than $2.8 million of that funding from the National Institutes of Health.

Over the last five years, the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy has disclosed 700 faculty inventions for patenting, launched 25 startups based on faculty work, and licensed 150 technologies to companies so they can turn them into life-saving products.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PSC) is a recognized leader in the field of drug discovery and development. The interdisciplinary faculty with expertise in structure-based drug design, pharmacogenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacometrics and nanotechnology are advancing basic and applied science in the enhancement of human health and well being. The Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research (P-SHOR) improves health care through research, innovation, collaboration, advocacy, and excellence in pharmacy education.

In addition to cutting-edge research in drug delivery mechanisms, cost impact studies, basic drug discovery and development, and disease management, faculty facilitate a wide variety of professional practice activities with over 200 community pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, and other agencies to provide services to citizens and practitioners around the state and across the nation.
