Pharmacists are medication experts who enhance patient care and promote wellness. You will use your professional knowledge as a pharmacist to prepare and dispense prescriptions, ensure medicines and doses are correct, prevent harmful drug interactions, and counsel patients on the safe and appropriate use of their medications. As a pharmacist, you will have unique and specialized expertise about the composition of medicines, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties, as well as their manufacture and use. The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) is a four year, full-time degree program which provides future generations of pharmacists with the knowledge and skills needed to be essential contributors to a dynamic healthcare arena. The UMSOP is the fourth oldest school of pharmacy in the United States, and a part of the the University of Maryland, Baltimore comprised of an academic health center along with the Schools of Medicine, Law, Nursing, Dentistry and Social Work.
At UMSOP we have electives, rotations, pathways to help our students explore the various aspects of pharmacy. We have over 25 student organizations and a career navigation program for our students to support career networking and opportunities. We offer dual degree programs, including PharmD/MBA, PharmD/MPH, PharmD/PhD, PharmD/JD and PharmD/MS.
Through its education, research, and service programs, the School of Pharmacy strives to improve the health and well-being of society by aiding in the discovery, development, and use of medicines.
