Pharmacists help people live healthier, better lives
Pharmacists are medication experts who enhance patient care and promote wellness. As a pharmacist, you will use your knowledge to prepare and dispense prescriptions, ensure medicines and doses are correct, prevent harmful drug interactions, and counsel patients on the safe and appropriate use of their medications. As a pharmacist, you will have unique and specialized expertise on the composition of medicines, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties, as well as their manufacture and use. Other health care professionals will rely on you to select and administer medications that offer the best results and quality of life for a particular patient. Take a look and see how many career options there are for pharmacists!
The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) is a four-year, full-time degree program that provides future generations of pharmacists with the knowledge and skills needed to be essential contributors to a dynamic health care arena. UMSOP is the third oldest school of pharmacy in the United States still in existence and is part of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, which is comprised of an academic health center along with the Schools of Medicine, Law, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, and Graduate Studies.
At UMSOP, we offer electives, rotations, and pathways to help our students explore the various aspects of pharmacy and customize their pharmacy school journey to meet their interests. We have more than 25 student organizations and a career navigation program to support career networking and opportunities. We offer dual degree programs, including PharmD/MBA, PharmD/MPH, PharmD/PhD, PharmD/JD, and PharmD/MS.
Through its education, research, practice, and service programs, UMSOP strives to improve the health and well-being of society by aiding in the discovery, development, and use of medicines.
